How hourly rates work on Go Fractional

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Your hourly rate helps us understand what you're looking for and whether a client opportunity is likely to be a fit. Here's how it all works.

What does the minimum hourly rate mean?

The Minimum hourly rate in your profile settings is the lowest hourly rate you'd generally consider for a fractional engagement. We use it as guidance during matching, to check that an opportunity fits both your expectations and the client's budget.

It isn't a guaranteed rate or a fixed price.

How does Go Fractional's fee work?

Go Fractional charges a 20% platform fee, so you can expect to receive 80% of what the client pays for your work. The fee covers:

  • Matching you with companies
  • Creating and managing contracts
  • Billing and collecting payments
  • Account management
  • Support throughout the engagement

For example, if a client pays $150 per hour for your work, you receive $120.

Keep this in mind when you set your minimum, so the amount you take home matches what you want to earn. Our Hourly Rate Calculator can help you find your number.

Is my rate shown to clients?

Your minimum hourly rate doesn't appear on your public profile, and it isn't automatically shared with clients before an introduction. Rates vary a lot depending on:

  • The client and the role
  • The scope of work
  • The number of hours
  • The length of the engagement
  • The level of responsibility
  • Your experience and expertise

That's why we treat the rate on your profile as internal guidance for matching.

Can my rate change between engagements?

Yes. Your rate is agreed separately for each engagement and written into that engagement's Statement of Work. You might take:

  • A higher rate for a short or highly specialized project
  • A different rate for a longer engagement with predictable hours
  • A different rate depending on responsibility or expected availability

Are rates negotiable?

Often, yes. Your minimum tells us what you expect, and the final rate is worked out based on the opportunity. You're never required to accept an engagement if the rate or terms don't work for you.

Are engagements billed hourly?

Many engagements are set up as a monthly retainer, based on your agreed rate and the hours expected. Your Statement of Work shows exactly how yours is structured.

How do I update my minimum hourly rate?

  1. Go to app.gofractional.com/settings (in the app: Profile, then Settings).
  2. Scroll to Work preferences and enter the new amount under Minimum hourly rate.
  3. Click Save changes.
